This is to record my learning or knowledge gathered from various sources in understanding and appreciating various ragas used in Carnatic and cine music.
From my understanding so far, there is not one easy way of doing this. With the advent of online video channels and instant searches, gathering information has become easy. Only thing that we need is proper motivation and interest to learn. This proves to be an useful for a novice like me who has interest in carnatic music but no proper training

1) Carnataka isaiyum cinemavum by G.S.Mani
Most commonly used ragas in Tamil film industry are mentioned. It is freely available in youtube.com and in raaga.com (though not complete). This was mentioned by one of my cousins as a good way to appreciate Carnatic music as we can learn ragas from known cine songs rather than listening to alapanas and losing interest quickly (which I was experiencing). This proved to be really useful and I am successful in identifying a few songs which are directly in sync with the songs explained in this series.
2) Isai payanam by Charulatha Mani
Another useful series offered by Charulatha Mani. This series not only explains the cine songs in the raga but also explains the aaroganam, avarganam and carnatic songs in the raga. This seems to be a detailed version and is quite interesting. It is also available in youtube.com and in raaga.com
